ANALF - The extralinguistic
The Turing Test is the standard way of establishing that an Artificial Intelligence system can be regarded as, at least,
indistinguishable from human behavior. It consists of an evaluator and other two "players", one of which is an AI program.
Through a chat interface, the evaluator has to tell which one is the machine. (Turing's original proposal was different, but this
is how the test is usually presented nowadays.)
There is no consensus as to whether or not an AI system has been able to pass the test so far.
In the 1970s, a chatbot (chatter robot) named PARRY, designed to emulate a paranoid schizophrenic, was used in a variation of this test in which the evaluators were psychiatrists and the other players where actual schizophrenic patients. PARRY passed this test.
We have not been able to create Artificial Intelligence so far, but we did create Artificial Schizophrenia.
A.N.A.L.F. (Asymmetrical Noetic Analogical Linguistical Failure) is a chatbot created to emulate an illiterate (analphabet) person that successfully passed another variation of the test. You can chat with it here.
